Disney Day 4 - Animal Kingdom

Published May 7, 2021

Today’s park, Animal Kingdom, opens at 8am and we were in line for parking by 7am.

Tomorrow will be a later start and today wasn’t long so it worked out.

At Animal Kingdom our only goal was to go on the wildlife safari drive and we were able to do that twice in a row without any problem.

The first time the staff were still putting out morning food for the animas and they were mostly in hiding. The second time there was a lot more activity. Of special note were the flock of Rinos crossing the road in front of us and the little Rino playing with it’s mom.

Giraffes wandered close to our bus. There were hippos. There were other animals I forget the names of. It was lovely.

Best of all, it wasn’t that hot. We had about a 20 minute wait for the second ride on the safari and as the line snaked through their jungle, it was cool and pleasant.

We went on a couple of loop walks through their trails looking at other animals. This part is much like a traditonal zoo. And at the end we watched two competing groups of monkeys sing and hoot and yell loudly at each other for a long time.

Then back to camp by around 11am. I had ample time to write and work. Though much of work time was spent trying to figure out how to line up some images on a web page. I eventually figured it out but it will be nice when Ramadan is over and I can outsource this stuff again. I don’t want to specialize in this.

For dinner we went over to the Wilderness Lodge resort at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. Among other things, they have “all-you-can-enjoy” skillets. I had the one called “The Pig” which was more about the kinds of meat and less about what it made me.

As with our Magic Kingdom lunch, one skillet was enough as it was a lot of food. Most pretty good. There was pork belly, sausage, pulled pork, a BBQ rib, and “piggy wings”, plus corn, green beans, and potatoes. I also ordered a salad. I could have had a bottomless milkshake but that sounded dangerous.

We didn’t have room for dessert.
