Today was another early day as we were off to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
This is where the new StarWars land resides so it’s a more popular and intense park than the others.
First thing, I attempted to get a coveted reservation on the Rise of the Resistance ride. The only way to get on it is to use your cell phone with the “My Disney Experience” app and get into their virtual queue. You do that at 7am local time. I went through the procedure immediately at 7am and was told all of the slots had been immediately filled up.
As much as Bob and I would enjoy going on the ride, I’m finding the process to achieve this feels more intense than fun. We’ll try again next week but I’m comfortable waiting a few years. I can always watch the ride on YouTube.
Back to normal, we arrived at Hollywood studios before official opening, parked, and went in. Our first goal was now getting on the very newest ride Mickey’s Runaway Railway. Most people were rushing elsewhere in the park (roller coasters, StarWars) so we only had about a 20 minute wait which we are glad we took.
This ride was amazing. I think it’s all the fun and more of Disneyland’s Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, with a funny story that puts you inside of a cartoon. The visual effects are perfectly done and quite magical. It’s a clever combination of wall sized high resolution LED screens, digital video projection, and other tricks. Beyond that it’s funny and fast paced. I’d go on it over and over.
Then on to a few other favorites like Toy Story Midway Mania, the three eyed alien spinning ride, and Muppet Vision 3d.
After this it was time to wait for our lunch reservation at the Brown Derby. This was a last chance to see if they could be redeemed after they made a bad cobb salad last time we were here.
Luncvh was ok, I had their burger, but the cobb salad was sub-standard again. This time the lettice wasn’t a problem. But they skimped on the avocado and tomato and the dressing seemed like nothing more than a generic Italian dressing. This was disappointing.
After that, back to camp for resting and work.
