The End of JumpstartMyHeart

Published October 23, 2020

For the last 932 dyas, I’ve written a daily blog.

It all started when I had open heart surgery.

You can read all about it here

At first I chronicled my recovery and all. And then it became a daily chronicle of my life.

However, over time, I found it less rewarding and more of a chore. While I enjoyed the writing and having a record of things, I also wanted to write about topics that weren’t a good match for that blog. Much more techincal topics as well as writing about food that I could link to for sharing with friends and such.

So for mostly that reason, I decided it was time to end that blog and continue writing on this website.

What’s the difference?

  1. No daily schedule. I’m already writing regularly elsewhere so keeping that habit going isn’t a problem.
  2. Freer choice of topics. By design I can separate out the writing more here so for people who want food, they can see food, for those who want deep tech stuff I’m interested in, there’s that. Eventually I want to have multiple announcement emails depending on topics but no rush for that.
  3. In a funny way, the constraint of writing about every day was constricting. The topic was my daily life. Other topics interest me more.

I plan to move all of the JumpstartMyHeart content over to this site so I can retire the JumpstartMyHeart.michaelhelmke.org sub-domain. That will make for one less Wordpress site to maintain. And this one isn’t wordpress either so I’m saving myself work.

Anyway. I’m thinking a change of venue and different charter will inspire me to write more. Though differently.

This website remains entirely for my own entertainment and benefit. There may be some value in that.
